I've been on a roller coaster of emotions since my image of Spring Round up was selected for the May issue. I was amazed, then I was grateful, then I was confused, then I was sad, then I was happy, then pissed, then I was resigned, and then and now--- I am just depleted. I am grateful for the wonderful comments, amazed at how many of them participated with the outcome of these photos, confused with issues of formatting, embedding, enlarging and editing. I was sad at the rough speculations of the sincerity of my photo and hopes that were given to the cowboys in my picture. Then pissed at my own self doubt. But you know what? I am happy for the new winner and all of the winners and impressed with the great judges, it must have been incredibly hard to select an image ( as I've been a photo judge for newspaper contests and understand the complications involved) and then spend hours scrupulously poring over them to be sure their is no fraud and that everything is fare! Kudo's to them! They've probably been on a roller coaster as well! Bless all of you...and somedays, life just turns out this way......
Frozen In Idaho
We have had an inversion for the past several weeks leaving the land trapped in a time warp of frozen fog. Ice hangs from trees and barb wire fences, crystal weeds and crunchy white snow resist the sippid looking orangish sunlight. I can't see the mountains anymore and the novelty of waking to an icey postcard is getting old. Carrying water to the horse troughs because the heat wrapped spiggets are frozen up is not fun either, nor is driving on ice...a tedious and daring adventure. Keeping the wood stove constantly going is a pain in the glutimas maximas (yes I am a terrible speller and their is no spell check on this site)as well and I won
From the Eye in the Sky
Photography became apealing to me when I realized that I needed a witness...For what? Perhaps for the brief moments when I understood that this minute in time will never be repeated. Weather it was an adventure, a scene, a person or a special look. With a camera, I snap the shutter, capture a memory and squeeze it into a tiny box to be extracted at my leisure! What an amazing bit of technology! The miracle is that not everyone is doing this. I want to say "Hello! Are you out there? Don't you realize that in thirty seconds you will be as old as your mother? Life does not stand still (unless your in the military or behind bars)! We all ne
Counting my blessings
It's almost the first day of 2013. The end of the world came and went and my life, loves, challenges and successes didn't end. I feel that each day is a new beginning. Right now at this minute, I am here, you are here. If I close my eyes, I can see my daugter and her children stretched out all over my house, tired from a long bus ride, snow on my back step and animals braving the outside elements. It's quiet in the country, gives me much time to think and be grateful. Blessings to all :)
Spring Round Up.
I was so excited to hear that my picture was selected for the contest winners! Because the day was such an ominous day (dark, damp, cloudy), I didn't really expect the photo to do well. The guys in the picture , were pretty wet most of the day and had to rebuild the fire several times to restart the branding. The guy in the white is a minister and has a little church in Murphy, one of about twelve cattle men( and women) that showed up to help with the branding!
Thank you for all your support and congratulations!
Congratulations to the other winners works, who's work is by far, more superior to mine.
I just liked the story "spring roun
